THE POSTGRADUATE STUDY OF LICENTIATE AND DOCTORATE AND THE LICENTIATE AND DOCTORATE STUDY OF THEOLOGY

 

The student has the right to complete the doctoral study (II. and III. cycle) in the period of eight (8) years under the conditions in which he/she was enrolled.

The student who enrolled into the doctoral study (III. cycle) with the diploma of licentiate has the right to complete his/her doctoral study in the period of five (5) years under the conditions in which he/she was enrolled.

Students who enrolled into the study in the academic year 2016/2017 (the Licentiate and Doctoral Study of Theology) need to submit the graded research licentiate thesis and pass the licentiate exam before their doctoral thesis has been graded.

THE PROTOCOL OF SUBMITTING THE TOPIC OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS AND THE PROTOCOL OF DEFENCE OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS

  1. ALL FORMS FOR APPLICATION, GRADING, AND DEFENCE (OF THE TOPIC) OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE SECRETARIAT OF THE POSTGRADUATE STUDY AT THE LATEST A WEEK BEFORE THE DATE OF A SESSION OF THE FACULTY BOARD. The forms that have been submitted after the aforementioned deadline will not be included in the Agenda of that session of the Board. In that case, the forms will be included in the Agenda in the next month.
  2. For submitting the topic of the doctoral thesis, the candidate (the doctoral student) and the proposed supervisor have to fill out and sign the Form dr. sc. 01 – Submission of the Topic of the Doctoral Thesis . The aforementioned form can be filled out only through the OBAD (Online database of doctoral students) system in which one can sign in with AAI@EduHr electronic identity. If a doctoral student does not have electronic identity, he/she needs to send a request to obtain it that ought to contain the full name and surname and OIB number to: poslijediplomski@kbf.hr.
  3. The form dr. sc. 01, once filled out, locked in the OBAD system, and signed by the candidate and proposed supervisor, needs to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study at the Catholic Faculty of Theology (KBF) of the University of Zagreb in two copies. The form dr. sc. 01 ought not to be locked before all requested data has been filled out!
  4. By submitting his/her application (Form dr. sc. 01), the doctoral student sets in motion the procedure of approving the topic of the doctoral thesis and appointing the Committee for Grading the Topic and proposing the supervisor, done by the Faculty Board of the KBF.
  5. If the doctoral student changes his/her mind about the title of the topic or proposed supervisor before the session of the Board, he/she needs to contact the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study of the KBF in order for the administrator of OBAD system to unlock the Form dr. sc. 01 and allow the doctoral student to make the changes.
  6. The Faculty Board of the KBF appoints the Committee for Grading and Proposing the Supervisor. The supervisor who is being proposed by using the Form dr. sc. 01 does not need to be present at that session.
  7. After the decision of the Board on the appointment of the Committee for Grading and Proposing the Supervisor has reached its decision, the members of the Committee, together with the candidate, set the date of the defence of the topic of the doctoral thesis that needs to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study two weeks before the defence at the latest.
  8. The submitted topic is defended publicly, in front of the Committee for Grading and Proposing the Supervisor, other doctoral students and interested parties at the latest three months after the application (Form dr. sc. 01) has been submitted.
  9. After the defence of the topic of the doctoral thesis, at least one member of the Committee in front of which the candidate has defended his/her topic has to be present at the session of the Faculty Board and he/she has to submit a report on it at the session.
  10. On the basis of the opinion of the Committee for Grading the Topic and Proposing the Supervisor for the Doctoral Thesis, the Faculty Board accepts the topic and appoints the supervisor.
  11. After the confirmation of the decision of the Faculty Board of the KBF of the University of Zagreb, the topic and the supervisor of the doctoral thesis are proposed to be accepted by the Senate of the University of Zagreb. After the Senate of the University of Zagreb confirms the final title of the doctoral thesis, the proposed title cannot be changed anymore.
  12. The candidate will submit to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study three (3), i.e., five (5) spirally bounded copies of his/her doctoral thesis and the Request for Appointment of the Committee for Grading the Doctoral Thesis in two (2) signed copies. The supervisor will submit to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study his/her written compliance, opinion, and grade in two 82) signed copies (there is no proscribed form for this, instead the supervisor will submit his/her opinion and grade in the form of a report). All this needs to be submitted at least a week before the date of the session of the Faculty Board. The supervisor does not need to be present at that session.
  13. The Faculty Board of the KBF of the University of Zagreb appoints the Committee for Grading the Doctoral Thesis that is required to submit a written report with grade of the doctoral thesis on the proscribed form in the period of two months after it was appointed. The President of the Committee will prepare the report on the basis of gathered written opinions of the members of the Committee, while the report is signed by all members of the Committee. The President of the Committee will gather all opinions and grade in the Form dr. sc. 10.
  14. The Committee for Grading the Doctoral Thesis proposes the following in its report: acceptance of the doctoral thesis with the explicit statement on achieved original scientific contribution/rejection of the doctoral thesis. An explanation is a necessary part of the report. Members of the Committee can propose changes that need to be made in the written doctoral thesis.
  15. The President of the Committee for Grading the Doctoral Thesis will submit to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study the Form dr. sc. 10 in two (2) signed copies, while the candidate will submit the Request for Appointment of the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis  on the basis of the opinion and grade of the Committee and also in two (2) signed copies. The Faculty Board will make the decision on the grade of the thesis and appoint the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis. At least one member of the Committee for Grading the Doctoral Thesis has to be present at the session of the Faculty Board and to submit the report during that session.
  16. After the Faculty Board has reached the decision on the appointment of the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis, the members of the Committee, together with the candidate, will set the date of the defence of the topic of the doctoral thesis. The date needs to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study at least two weeks before the defence.
  17. The candidate can defend his/her doctoral thesis if he/she has passed all exams and fulfilled all other obligations of the third cycle. The doctoral student can defend his/her doctoral thesis in the period of two months after the positive grade of the thesis has been accepted by the Faculty Board.
  18. The defence of the doctoral thesis is public. The call to the defence has to be made public at least a week before the defence. The procedure of the defence is determined by the protocol (Form dr. sc. 11).
  19. The candidate will pay the sum of 8.000,00 kn on the account of the Faculty at least a week before the date of the defence.
  20. The Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis will grade the thesis after the defence. The grade at the defence can be defended or not defended. The grade is reached by majority vote of the members of the Committee for the Defence of the Doctoral Thesis. A doctoral thesis is defended only once.
  21. At the latest a month after the defence of the doctoral thesis, the candidate will submit eight (8) bounded copies of his/her doctoral thesis to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Study.
  22. The doctoral thesis is published in entirety on the webpage of the University at the latest a month after the defence. The doctoral thesis is archived in the written form in the National and University Library and in the archive of the University.
  23. The doctoral student obtains the rights of the doctor of science, specified by the work law, on the day he/she has successfully defended his/her doctoral thesis. He/she will obtain the full rights of the academic title and diploma when he/she has given a solemn oath at the promotion and his/her name has been inscribed in the book od doctors of science or arts.
  24. In the period of one month from the defence, the doctoral student needs to fill out the university form for promotion to the degree of doctor of science or arts.
  25. The doctoral diploma is delivered by the Rector at the official promotion at which the doctoral student has to be present, either personally or through a proxy who has to have the degree of doctor of science or arts.
